PRACTICAL TUTORIAL / CHATGPT + API
Follow the shortest path from access to a useful first image. This guide covers the ChatGPT workflow, a minimal API smoke test, prompt writing, multi-turn editing, and the fixes for common setup problems.
gpt-image-2.5-sunburst or gpt-image-2.5-flare with the documented Images API route.Access can vary by account, plan, region, rollout stage, and provider. Check the live product or developer documentation first; do not treat a guide as a guarantee that a model appears in every account.
Use an eligible ChatGPT plan or workspace. If the model picker does not show the option, check the account and current product availability.
For API use, create a developer project, add billing where required, and store the key server-side as an environment variable.
Confirm regional availability and usage policies in the official OpenAI documentation.
This is the simplest path for most people. The controls may change as ChatGPT updates, so use the labels visible in your account.
Sign in, start a new conversation, and open the model selector near the top of the chat. On a narrow screen, the selector may be inside the conversation header.
GPT Image 2.5Choose the image model if it appears in your list. If it is missing, review the troubleshooting section below instead of repeatedly submitting prompts to an unavailable model.
State the subject, purpose, composition, lighting, style, color direction, aspect ratio, and any text requirements. For example: “Create a clean editorial portrait of a ceramic artist in a sunlit studio, 4:5 composition, warm neutral palette, no logos.”
Wait for the result, then open the image to inspect details at full size. Download only after checking faces, hands, small type, edges, and the crop needed for your destination.
Ask for one focused change, such as “Keep the subject and camera angle; brighten the background and remove the cup on the right.” Multi-turn edits are easier to evaluate when each request changes one important variable.
Screenshot note: The labeled frames above are reserved for real, first-party ChatGPT screenshots. Replace them with captured interface images before publication; do not present a mockup as a product screenshot.
The API route is useful when you need repeatable jobs, server-side storage, or integration into an application. Create an API key in the OpenAI developer platform, install the SDK, and keep the key out of browser code.

use the exact headline; no invented letteringCheck your plan, account, region, and current rollout. Sign out and back in once, then confirm the product status before escalating.
Check the endpoint, API version, and exact hyphenated model ID: gpt-image-2.5-sunburst. Verify that the project is allowed to use it.
Make the prompt more concrete, specify composition and lighting, and try a higher quality setting only after the concept works.
High-resolution and high-quality jobs can take longer. Try a smaller size or lower quality for the first composition pass.
Access and pricing depend on the product surface, account, model, and current provider terms. Check your ChatGPT plan or API pricing rather than assuming a fixed free allowance.
You may be able to use the API if your developer account has access and billing enabled. ChatGPT availability can differ by plan, region, and rollout stage.
GPT Image 2.5 is a newer release. Compare documented editing behavior, output options, latency, and real usage for your workflow instead of relying on an absolute quality claim.
There is no single limit for every user. ChatGPT limits and API rate limits can vary by plan, organization, model, and current service policy.
Image editing workflows can use an input image and, where supported, a mask to identify an area for change. Confirm the current endpoint requirements before implementing inpainting.
